The LEO Center is a unique, non-profit 501(c)(3) Christian outreach and discipleship ministry designed to meet the physical and spiritual needs of people residing in Lawrence and surrounding communities. By uniting churches in a purposeful, meaningful, and much-needed ministry that meets the physical needs of people in the community, the founding pastors of The LEO Center hope to reach the entire community of Lawrence, KS with the good news of Jesus Christ.
There are five parts to The LEO Center, which opened its doors on April 5, 2004, in downtown Lawrence. These five parts include:
All five parts work in concert to further the organization′s vision and mission.
Our vision: The LEO Center will become the leader in demonstrating Christianity in action in our community.
Our mission: To transform lives by providing hope to those in need.
In 2004, the medical clinic at The LEO Center served more than 4,000 people. Many of them faced major challenges in their lives, not the least of which was the stressful, burdensome difficulty of paying for quality health care services when they found themselves unemployed, uninsured, disabled, or living from paycheck to paycheck.
At The LEO Center, no person is turned away for urgent medical care for lack of funds.
All patients are extended a helping hand, provided with quality health care services, and introduced to God′s saving grace. Often, they are counseled and offered biblically based discipleship services. It is the goal of The LEO Center to reach all 100,000 people living in Lawrence and its surrounding communities with the message of Christian hope, faith and salvation, and to encourage these people to become active, vibrant members of the Body of Christ.
Six evangelical churches joined hands to start The LEO Center, and dozens more will be sought to join the ministry in the years ahead.
