Volunteering at The LEO Center

General volunteers

The LEO Center needs more volunteers to help with service projects and organization. We have a number of opportunities and planned events that allow people to get connected and serve those in need.

Medical Clinic

The medical clinic requires volunteers who are age 18 or older. They help by filing medical records, answering the phone and taking messages, and performing other administrative duties. We especially need phone volunteers over the lunch hour. Medical volunteers - those who work with patients - must apply with Tracey Bird and be willing to commit at least four hours per week for a full semester.

Food pantry

Our food pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The operation of the pantry requires two people: one "leader" - a very good communicator - and and one helper. The leader will need to be a committed, regular volunteer who has good communication skills. This person will visit with clients, analyze their food pantry surveys, and determine what food the client will need. We also hope that this person would be able to engage the clients in conversation about Christ's love for them. The helper would primarily be there to support the leader and would put the chosen food into a box for the family to take home. With more volunteers, we may be able to expand the open hours of the food pantry.

The need to stock the pantry is somewhat sporadic and unscheduled. If there are volunteers who would be willing to come in when they get a phone call, they could help in this capacity.

The LEO Center receives food donations from Panera and Starbucks. Starbucks gives us food on Tuesday mornings, and Panera will donate on any night. Volunteers would be appreciated to pick up the food from these establishments and to transport it to the pantry during LEO Center hours of operations (9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to noon Friday). Panera volunteers would need to be at the restaurant at 7:45 p.m. and plan on loading bags of food around 8:30 p.m. Help on Monday nights would be especially appreciated.
